Overwhelming Waves

This fast paced world continually demands more from us. With its loud shouts and subtle pressures we are lured into its game and become easy prey for the beast whose hunger is rarely satisfied. When this happens it is easy to take our eyes (and ears) off of The Lord. Instead, we look at our overwhelming circumstances building and swelling larger until, like a wave of the sea it threatens to engulf us. These waves come one after another without giving opportunity for us to catch our breath and before we know it we are just trying to keep our heads above water. But there is One bigger than the waves. In fact, He commands the sea. The Prophet Isaiah says that He will keep us in PERFECT PEACE. But there is a stipulation to this desirable serenity. We must choose to focus on The Lord.
Focusing on God instead of our circumstances is easier said than done. It takes practice and determination. We must constantly choose to feast from God’s banquet table that sustains life, instead of snacking on the world’s lies.

Feed me with the food from Your table, Oh Lord, that I may never hunger and thirst again. Help me fix my eyes and ears on You and enjoy Your peace even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. – Isaiah 26:3

You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they took to flight. The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them. You set a boundary that they may not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth. – Psalm 104:6-9
